The weather over the weekend was a bit patchy with a strong southerly on the Saturday dampening the enthusiasm of quite a few, though Sunday was okay for all kinds of fishing.
Due to the strong winds the outside contingent were not so keen with only a small number making use of the window of opportunity on Sunday morning. Col Barber was pleased with his 1.4kg Pearl Perch, 1.08kg Venus Tusk Fish and being named Angler of the Month with four species.
Mick Willoughby was the only other senior outside winner with a 2.45kg Snapper while junior angler Jayden Allen was on the right side of the boat winning with a 1.17kg Snapper, a 1.79kg Venus Tusk Fish and being named Junior Outside Angler of the Month with two species.
With more potential fishing options, the beach, rock and estuary (inside) section of the competition was much more keenly contested with all sections being accounted for in varying degrees.
There must have been a few busy parents/grandparents over the weekend because quite a few juniors nominated for the competition.
Many fished and made it to the prize winners circle and, guess what, they were all girls.
Olivia Wright was on a roll with a prize for Dusky Flathead, 845gms, Whiting, 230gms and Junior Inside Angler of the Month with three species. Lucy Mansfield made here presence felt with a 480gm Bream and a 270gm Whiting while Savannah Kane scored with a 330gm Bream. Also Sophia Drake picked up a prize with a 540gm Tarwhine.
The junior section of our Club is comprised of two age groups, but they have been lumped together for this report because on the day - girls ruled.
In the senior section there are mostly familiar names on the result sheet because they are keen and competent fishers.
Rarely does a competition go by without these names appearing on the results sheet and this month was no exception. Bob Nips (President Bob that is) took out the men's Bream with a 890 gm fish while Joy Ashley won the lady's section with a 570gm Bream.
Wendy Halverson won with a 1.15kg Dusky Flathead. Not unusually, Pat Halverson and Damien Ashley had a tussle over the remaining prizes.
Pat won with a 410gm Whiting and took out Senior Inside Angler of the Month with 6 species while Damien won with a 1.025kg Dusky Flathead and a 10.6kg Mulloway caught off the rocks.
The next club competition will be on the weekend of November 2 and 3 and our member's Christmas Barbecue will be on Sunday November 17. More about that next month.
