The Return and Earn point in Stuart St, Kempsey has become an eyesore after users of the recycling system have decided to leave piles of trash behind.
Locals are cashing in on the scheme, which provides a refund of 10c per eligible bottle and can, but are illegally disposing of their empty carton boxes, garbage bags and rubbish at the site.
The purpose of the NSW Government scheme was to was to reduce litter in NSW and the instructions on the returnandearn.org.au website clearly state to dispose of your rubbish appropriately.
"Once you've dropped off, take your rubbish with you," the website states.
"To keep our return points and environment clean for everyone, please make sure to take home anything that can't be recycled through Return and Earn.
"So take home ineligible containers and cardboard boxes and put them in your home kerbside recycling."
There is also a clear warning on the side of the Return and Earn point, which states a $250 fine will be issued for littering.
