The backburn would take in areas of Chaelundi National Park and Chaelundi State Forest with the hard containment lines being Stop-a-bit Trail and Shaes Nob Trail.
Mt Hyland resident Rosemary Yates said the proposal would see thousands of hectares lit up.
"It is an absolute catastrophe for the biodiversity," she said. "There are no provisions at all for any refuges and no provisions for any flora and fauna."
The fire, which has been burning for four weeks, has already destroyed 106018 ha of country.
To the east 268 ha have burned at Billys Creek and to the north 36,416 ha have burnt at Red Range.
