Their senior ensemble, the BYO Sinfonia was initiated by Annie Phelan (BYO Artistic Director) and Amber Davis (Sinfonia Conductor).
They saw a growing need to cater to their most advanced string players in the Bellingen Youth Orchestra. Amber had recently moved to Bellingen from Sydney bringing a wealth of experience with her, specifically the 23 years she spent playing and working as a mentor with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
The Sinfonia had its debut performance earlier this year, playing at the Memorial Hall alongside the Haydn Ensemble. Their performance of 'Corelli's Christmas Concerto' stunned the audience and it was at this point Amber knew she had a very talented group of young musicians that she could challenge and motivate to play beyond their previous comfort zones.
The Sinfonia then played the annual BYO concert where they played like champions, the repertoire included Grieg's Elegiac melody no 2 Tchaikovsky Serenade mvt 4 and 'The Old Reinlander' from the Woodworks Album and were met with a rousing reception'.
Over the year, the Sinfonia has had new members join, with the ensemble currently hosting 23 players. They are very excited to be playing their own concert and to share with the local community the exceptional ensemble that is the BYO Sinfonia.
Join the BYO Sinfonia on November 24 for an afternoon of pure musical bliss. This is Vivaldi in all his musical ingenuity, the best known of his works, imagine closing your eyes and be taken away with musical imagery of flowing creeks, singing birds, a shepherd and his barking dog, buzzing flies, storms, drunken dancers, hunting parties from both the hunters' and the prey's point of view, frozen landscapes, and warm winter fires. Welcome to 'From Tuscany to Spring'.
The repertoire will also include 'Tchaikovsky's Serenade' for Strings-Waltz and Finale and will finish with something a little more modern, music from the Danish String Quartet's Last Leaf album. If you don't feel like smelling the roses now, you will after this!
This amazing musical event is on at 2pm on Sunday, November 24.
Tickets are $25 each or $18 dollars for concession. Children under 12 attend for free. You can purchase tickets at the box office on the day, at the Bellingen Visitor Centre or by going to www.stickytickets.com.au/CAPAT. For more information please visit www.bowravilletheatre.com.au
