Lisa Domeny, founder of Golden Oldies Inc, has been adopting and caring for senior dogs for a number of years and takes them each week to visit residents at Japara.
"The dogs love it here, as soon as I let them off the lead they head straight to the residents rooms who give them treats," Lisa said.
One of these residents is 99-year-old Bob Fryer. He saves bananas for the dogs who dutifully sit at his feet and patiently wait while he equally divides the piece of fruit for them.
Lisa currently has eight senior dogs that she has adopted to give them a safe and loving forever home to see out their days. Each time one of the dogs passes away she writes a children's picture book in their honour, with the proceeds going towards helping re-home old dogs.
"I really want to encourage people to adopt older dogs and give them a loving home even if it's not for a very long time," she said.
Lisa has just released two new books 'Indy's Spot of Bother' and 'Nev and his Bare Belly'.
"Bob had a lot to do with one of my new books 'Nev and his Bare Belly'. The relationship between Bob and Nev was one of a kind. They really had a special friendship," she said.
"I had to include Bob in the book."
Bob wrote the foreword for 'Nev and his Bare Belly' and features in many of the photos with Nev, showing off the special connection the two of them shared.
"I love being in the book, it shows how much I appreciate the dogs coming to see me," Bob said.
Team Golden Oldies has raised over $8000 to go towards re-homing senior dogs over the years.
"I would love to eventually be able to help people with vet bills in our area, people who may only have their dog as a companion and can't afford to pay for it themselves," Lisa said.
