The phenomenon wasn't isolated to the Nambucca Valley - unconfirmed reports were circulating on social media channels all over the state, prompting NSW Police to issue a stern warning to anyone found looting
"These communities have suffered enough without individuals stealing what items they have left," State Emergency Operations Controller Deputy Commissioner Gary Worboys said last Tuesday.
"Any reports of looting or other criminal acts will be thoroughly investigated. If you choose to partake in this type of behaviour, you will face the full force of the law."
But at that stage police said they were yet to receive reports of the crime and no investigations were active.
Macksville Police have today confirmed there has been only one report of a break and enter around Burrapine in the past week.
The items identified as having been stolen from the property - CDs, a cufflink, a veggie peeler, an external hard-drive and a Dremel drill - are not the usual kind of things taken by opportunists wanting to make a quick buck.
Investigations are continuing into that incident.
Local police have said, however, there may be other cases of looting in the area which have gone unreported. And a continued police presence in the area may have deterred more incidents.
They have advised residents to make sure everything is kept locked up, watch over neighbours' properties, and report any incidents to police, including any suspicious behaviour.
