Over the past 10 years, 70,633 students in 69 schools on the Mid North Coast have received a visit from the Life Education van, learning about healthy eating, physical activity, cyber safety, respectful relationships, and drug and alcohol prevention.
This year the Healthy Mid North Coast Communities Fund supported 300 students from Kempsey West Public School to participate in the Life Education program.
Amy Sawyer, coordinator of Healthy Communities Mid North Coast Local Health District, said now more than ever it is vital that young people are given the skills to make healthy choices.
"It is important that health messages are embedded early in a child's education. It was fantastic to see how engaged the children were with the Life Education program," Ms Sawyer said.
Life Education NSW CEO Jonathon Peatfield said assistance from the local community and volunteers is vital to ensure that youngsters in the area can continue to benefit from Life Education's health and safety lessons.
"Children and families today face many challenges to their health and well-being. These challenges are even greater for families in regional and rural NSW, where access to health services can be an issue," Mr Peatfield said.
"For 40 years Life Education has been supporting families in NSW with vital health education. In NSW we travel to schools in every local government area - no matter how far or how small - so that no child misses out on these important lessons.
"As a not-for-profit organisation we rely on support from government, community and business to ensure that this generation of young Australians lives to their full potential."
