The Andersons Creek Fire near Darkwood crossed Blackwoods Road last night. Fire fighters are preparing Orama Road as a containment line today.
No backburning from Orama Road will be conducted today or tomorrow.
Running south from the Horseshoe, Forestry Corp of NSW will be preparing Roses Creek Rd as the first containment option to hold the fire out of the Kalang Valley.
Crews will also be in Darkwood today, working with residents to provide property protection and mop up the fire line close to houses.
Sunday evening:
The Andersons Creek fire now covers more than 9000 ha and is burning along both sides of Horseshoe Rd and extends onto escarpment near Langtons Rd, Deer Vale.
There is a separate ignition point in bush land close to Darkwood and Bishops Creek.
Ground crews from NPWS and RFS started backburns from Blackwoods Rd. This will continue under the mild conditions today and crews will actively patrol Deer Vale areas while heavy plant are strengthening existing containment lines.
Local crews are working to provide property protection to assets in Darkwood as the fire approaches.
Fire agencies are working together to form a strategic plan with the aim of keeping the fire out of the Kalang Valley. This will involve extensive containment line preparation and backburning.
Additional heavy plant including harvesting machinery will commence working in coming days.
Advice:
Monitor conditions and check your fire plan. Leaving early is the safest option. Unauthorised lighting of fires is prohibited as it can compromise the safety of ground crews in the area and put further assets at risk.
