Work on a major redevelopment of the Stuarts Point foreshore area is progressing well with the first stage completed for the summer holiday season.

The $3.4 million project is jointly funded by Kempsey Shire Council and the NSW Government under its Restart NSW Regional Growth - Environment and Tourism Fund and Boating Now Program.
Works that have been completed in Stage 1 include;
- A sealed car and trailer parking area to improve river access for fishing and other boating activities.
- Expanded riverfront picnic and barbeque area with new children's playground
- New foreshore pathways
- New streetlighting and security lighting in the Public Reserve
Council's Director of Operations and Planning, Robert Fish, said the project was identified as a priority in Council's 2019-20 Operational Plan and 2017-21 Delivery Program.
"Stage one has been completed in time for the summer holiday period, allowing residents and visitors to enjoy the new playground and picnic areas," Mr Fish said.
"Work on the next stage of the project will get underway in the New Year and will see the construction of a new amenities, an outdoor stage for concerts and events and a new boat ramp."
A new access road to the holiday park and new public carparking areas are 75 per cent complete.
There will be a temporary connection into the holiday park during the peak holiday time.
The foreshore project is expected to be completed by mid-2020.
