I hope everyone in the Macleay Valley enjoyed Christmas and the festive season. It was great to see the Christmas spirit very much alive in our townships with many homes displaying festive lights.

2020 Australia Day Award nominations
As a community, we can be proud of what we achieved in 2019, especially those who have given and are giving their support to the communities impacted by the bushfires. It is important that we all continue to make a contribution to our community - be it large or small - throughout 2020 because together we make a real difference in the Macleay Valley.
It's also important to recognise our local heroes. If you haven't nominated a worthy recipient for the 2020 Australia Day Awards, please take this as a friendly reminder that you only have just over a week before the closing date Monday, January 6.
The online nomination form is easy to complete and is available on council's website http://www.kempsey.nsw.gov.au/ausday.
Welcome visitors
The Macleay Valley attracts, on average, half a million visitors each year, many over the holiday break. Welcome!
To help you get around there are two Visitor Information Centres; one is located at South West Rocks and one at South Kempsey. Drop in for a chat with our friendly staff who willingly share their knowledge and can offer some great tips and 'local secrets' to help visitors enjoy a memorable stay and locals to experience the best the Macleay has to offer.
The Macleay Valley is renowned for its hospitality and community spirit, and I encourage everyone to offer a friendly welcome to all the visitors sharing our valley over the holidays. It's important that our holiday-makers enjoy their stay, share their positive experience with others after they leave, and return for many more holidays in the future.
