The initial report was that a woman had fallen off rocks at the Mermaid Pools below Trial Bay Gaol.
The Rescue Helicopter attended the scene and winched a medical team onto the rocks.
The 44-year-old woman was then winched to safety on a stretcher suffering head and leg injuries.
It's believed the woman fell three to four metres when knocked off the rocks by a wave.
The patient has been transported to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.
A second person was also injured in the incident and they were carried out by emergency services.
The Rescue Helicopter was also assisted by emergency services and National Parks and Wildlife staff who cleared the car park at Trial Bay Gaol for the helicopter to land.
