The theme of this year's Hearing Awareness Week is 'Don't let hearing loss limit you' and aims to create awareness about permanent and semi-permanent hearing loss.
NSW Department of Education Support teacher hearing Sammi Fatnowna and Aboriginal Health Worker from NSW Health Marilyn Dean are organising the display and said this week is a perfect opportunity to learn more about hearing loss and preventative measures.
"We have resources here for the community to take with them and they can ask any questions they might have," Sammi said.
Sammi works in the educational sector and visits schools to teach children how to take care of their hearing while Marilyn explains how the equipment for ear checks work.
"Hearing issues are very prevalent in children, so our model is aimed at teaching them how to care for their ears at a young age," Sammi said.
"If you don't treat a hearing problem before the age of eight, it can be a long-term problem."
"It's important to teach children when they're young because if they develop hearing issues it can effect their learning and social skills," Marilyn added.
The display also features information on where locals can book a hearing test, including Kempsey District Hospital, Durri ACMS, a local GP and through Hearing Australia.
"We also have some information for older locals who may be starting to suffer from hearing loss," Sammi said.
The display will be featured at Kempsey Shire Library until Friday, March 6.
The library will also be holding free hearing sessions for adults on Thursday, March 12 from 10am to 12pm. Hearing Australia will conduct eight sessions, with each session running for 15 minutes. Bookings are essential and can be done by calling the library on 6566 3210 or via email Kempsey.library@kempsey.nsw.gov.au
