It had Morton exclaiming they were the "Three wise men" whereas Ratcliff in his usual roguish way reckoned they were "The three Stooges".
Ball kicked off the winning spree with five-year-old gelding San Marco ($21), owned by his daughter, Gai, and Barry Rumbel, scoring first-up from a spell by 1.5 lengths over 900m at Newcastle.
Ball only has two gallopers in his stable these days and the other, three-year-old gelding Lost Light, won the week before at Grafton.
Ratcliff won with four-year-old mare Shy One ($51), owned by former St George and Cronulla top league player in the 1970's, Kevin Gibson, three days later at Coffs Harbour.
Later that week, Acoustix ($5) scored easily by nearly two lengths for Morton at Wyong.
Ratcliff only got out of the hospital under the care of Dr John Gann for a leg operation a couple of days before the race.
While watching the finish on television, Ratcliff was still able to show his enthusiasm though, despite his healing injury.
"I was jumping up and down; I didn't feel my operation," he said.
