"The club has been closed since March because of COVID-19, but we have been busy behind the scenes with the next part of our renovations," NHSLC president Gary Colston said.
"The kitchen has recently been upgraded, the roof has been repainted and we now have WiFi and an EFTPOS machine.
"The old bar has been knocked down and is being rebuilt by Kitchen Fx; the plan is to have this completed for our next Sunday Sips.
"We are also looking at upgrading to a timber floor and getting solar panels for the roof."
While most of the new works are either underway or in the late planning stages, the main attraction is still to come.
A deck overlooking the beach is still the end game, and the Nambucca club president is hoping to finalise the project details soon.
"The deck has been approved, and we are talking with Macksville Hospital contractor Hansen Yuncken about the design process and building," Colston said.
"We have applied for a grant from Surf Lifesaving NSW, and should know the result in the next few weeks, if we are successful in getting the grant, the deck will be the next thing we do."
The last year have seen NHSLC going from strength to strength, with interest in the local venue at an all time high.
The Sunday Sips event in particular proved so successful that before COVID-19, the hours were extended to keep up with demand.
"The club was open for ten days straight over the Christmas holidays and it was huge, we were run off our feet, there were heaps of locals, tourists and our members in here every day," Colston said.
"Even during the lockdown, we are still getting inquiries about when we will reopen and start hosting events again."
There is currently no firm date on when that will be, but Colston is hopeful the club will be open again in a few weeks.
"At this stage, we are looking at opening in July, although that could change, we are in limbo at the moment waiting to see when restrictions ease enough for us to open up," he said.
