Excellent fields enjoyed some sunny days, and the more hardy braved the showers on Thursday.
It's great to be back playing in fours, and subtle changes to some tee placements posed a few more challenges for some.
All events this past week were Medley Single Stablefords.
Last Tuesday, we had 81 visitors and members enjoying a lovely day for playing golf. Stuart Johnston (9 handicap) carded 37 points to win Division 1 (scratch to 20) from Hay Gregory (20) from Urunga on 36 points.
Ross Morpuss (25) was the winner of Division 2 (12 to 45) with 38 points from Robert Alexander (24) from Bellingen on 35 points. Other good scores were returned by Steve McNeil, Geoffrey Harris, Andrew Donovan, Anthony Smith, Michael Lee, Michael Broadfoot, and Russell Lane, all with 35 points. Balls went down to 31 points on countback.
Thursday's weather threatened with rain, thankfully only light showers eventuated, and those who ventured out tell me that they didn't get all that wet. William Mann (17) is continuing his good form and won Division 1 (scratch to 20) with 40 points from Martin Jones (13) close behind with 39 points.
In Division 2 (21 to 45) I'm told Neil Duffus didn't miss a fairway or a putt all day to have the best score with 42 points to win from Leslie Mohr (24) just behind on 41 points.
Other good scores were carded by Adam Lees 38, Darcy Habgood - playing off handicap of 1 - a great round 37, and Andrew Mackinnon, David Bartos and Gregory McCoy all on 36 points. Balls went down to 31 points on countback.
A bumper field of 120 teed off for Saturday's competition - it's great to see our members out in force once again! In Division 1 (scratch to 16) Eddie Kost (15) visiting from Gailes scored 39 points to win from Mark McLaren (14) on 38 points.
John Morgan (17) had a great round scoring 42 points to win Division 2 (17 to 23) from Gary Beggs (21) on 36 points. Alvin Rapley (26) had another "blinder", scoring 42 points also to win from Mark Blake (24) on 37 points.
Other good rounds were had by Stuart Johnston 38, Denys Tobin 37, and Peter Miller, Chris Thorndike and Ronald Lapin all with 36 points. Balls went down to 31 on countback.
There is plenty of golf on The Island next week - subject to all the special rules in place for COVID-19 personal safety. We have Medley Single Stableford competitions on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, with extended tee times available from 7am until 12.30pm on Thursday and Saturday. Our Ladies competition continues on Wednesdays, and a 9-hole chook run on Friday afternoons.
See you on The Island!
