It was announced on Thursday morning the Cowra junior had signed with French powerhouse Olympique Lyon.
Lyon has won the European Champions League, regarded as the strongest competition in women's football, a record six times in the past decade.
Twenty-year-old Carpenter joins from US side, Portland Thorns.
"The Thorns have played an extremely important role in helping me grow and develop as a player over the past two years, and I am grateful to everyone who invested in me during my time in Portland," Carpenter said.
"I am proud to have been part of this club."
Lyon play in the Division 1 Feminine, the top flight competition in France and the club has dominated the league, winning the past 14 titles. Lyon's most notable player is Norwegian superstar Ada Hegerberg, who was the first winner of Ballon D'or Feminin, the prize for the best female player in the world, in 2018.
Carpenter left the Central West when she was 12-years-old - when she was a year 6 student at Mulyan Public School - in order to chase her football dreams.
By the age of 16, the teenager earned her first call up to the national side and in 2017 she scored her first goal for the Matildas.
She was also the youngest member of the Australian team at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
