It's uncanny how the weather always seems to play an unwanted role when the Club Championships are on, forcing postponement of Sunday's third round of the Men's Championships.

Course improvements keep on coming - Course Superintendent Greg Jager has been busy with a new chainsaw donated by Geoff Rees removing numerous old tree stumps around the course, enabling Dan's Tree Service to finish the job with a stump grinder - great work everyone!
Tuesday's Medley Single Stableford was again well patronised with numerous visitors competing.
Peter Miller (14), Steven McNeil (13) from Dorrigo and Robert Reid (17) all scored 36 points in Division 1 (scratch to 20) with Peter winning on countback. There was another close tussle in Division 2 (21 to 45) with Lee Fewings (33) and Trevor Peck (25) both scoring 35 points, Lee winning on countback. Other good scores were from Colin Habgood (Kempsey), Greg McCoy, Andrew McKinnon, and Michael Tarleton all with 35 points, and Mary Bysouth and Raimo Neuvonen both with 34 points. Balls went down to 32 on countback, Colin Easey the last to collect.
The course was in beautiful condition for the start of the Ladies Championships on Wednesday. The leader is Darcy Habgood with 71. B Grade leader Gillian Anderson is on 94 and C Grade leader is Moran Paterson with 41 stableford points.
To encourage greater participation in the C Grade Championship this year the Ladies Committee is trialling the new Stableford format and encourages feedback from competitors.
The daily competition had 50 starters, with A Grade won by Denise Paluch with 68 nett, and runner up Darcy Habgood 71. B Grade winner was Gillian Anderson on 66 nett with runner up Narelle Delaney with 70. C Grade was won by Morann Paterson with 41 Stableford points and Linda Piccin was runner up with 34. Ball runs went to 75 nett in the stroke and 31 points in the Stableford competitions.
Thursday was a Medley Single Stableford with a good field of 94 players enjoying a lovely winter's day on a course beautifully groomed for the Championships.
Darcy Habgood (0) and Colin Wormleaton (10) both played excellent golf to finish with 38 points in Division 1 (scratch to 18), Darcy winning on the countback. Keith Elphick (24) had the best score of the day with 40 points to win Division 2 (19 to 24) from Hans Jensen (23) on 38 points. It was great to see Geoffrey Wilson (34) having a good score of 39 points to win Division 3 (25 to 45) from Colin Easey (26) on 38 points.
The shot of the day goes to Allen Cathy (13) visiting from NSW Golf Club who scored that elusive Hole in One on the 5th Hole - congratulations Allen - a memorable visit to Nambucca Island!
Other good scores were from Geoffrey Harris and Leslie Mohr 37 points, Donald Wills, Colin Dunne, Gary Tierney, Russell White and Robert Coneybeare all with 36 points. You needed 33 points on countback to win a ball, Paul Ryan the last on the list.
Saturday was the second round of the Men's Championships sponsored by HLV Chartered Accountants, with the morning players enjoying overcast conditions. Unfortunately, the weather deteriorated after lunchtime with steady rain, and 20 players withdrew in favour of the comforts of the clubhouse.
Stephen Carr (5) matched his first-round score of 73 off the stick - the best of the day for a net 68. Drew Glasson (10) scored a net 64 to win A Grade (0 to 12) from Stephen. In B grade (13 to 18), Robert Coneybeare (17) had a great round of net 62 to win from Rick Heywood (18) with net 65. Ronal Cook (30) was the net winner in C Grade with net 69 from Dennis Ashton (19) with net 70.
Other good scores came from Peter Moxon and Paul Maxwell on 70, also from John Buganey, Colin Wormleaton, Kevin Mulhall, Christopher Tinson and Hans Jansen all with 71. Ball run down to 74 on countback, John Morgan getting the last one. Progressive scores gross and net are available on the Club's website.
Sunday's third round has been postponed until this Saturday and the final round will be on Sunday due to the rain event.
There is plenty of golf on the Island next week with Medley Single Stableford competitions on Tuesday and Thursday. Saturday and Sunday are the third and final rounds the Men's Championships. Our Ladies Championship deferred Round 2 jointly sponsored by Midcoast Trucks and Community Transport continues on Wednesday. There is a 9-hole chook run on Friday afternoons. Social play is available after competitions, and on other days from 8am until 4pm.
