Kempsey Shire Council's new Community Grants program offers grant funding to active not-for-profit community groups so they can deliver community-led projects in a wide variety of forms that benefit the shire.
Council are calling on existing community groups to attend an information session in person or online.
Applications open on September 7 and close October 16.
The new Community Grants program is an expansion of the traditional Mayoral Community Fund. The program aims to increase awareness of grant funded projects, ensure standards for fairness, equity and transparency and increase the capacity for local community organisations to successfully obtain a range of grant funds.
Through the four grant streams, council intends to allocate $65,000 in funding this financial year.
Council recognises that many important services across the shire are best supplied by community organisations according to council's Director Corporate and Commercial, Stephen Mitchell.
"We are passionate about supporting not-for-profit organisations as they help to improve life in our shire and the wellbeing of residents," Mr Mitchell said.
The Community Grants program has four available streams:
- The Mayoral Community Fund provides funding support to community groups and organisations who want to establish, strengthen or implement projects that align with the Kempsey Shire Council Community Strategic Plan and benefit local residents.
- Environmental Levy Grants assist volunteer environmental groups with environmental restoration works on public land.
- Funding is available via Community Halls Grants for council's Section 355 hall committees to assist with repairs, maintenance and upgrades to the halls and facilities.
- Sporting Grants are for local sporting clubs to fund equipment and minor capital works in line with the Council's Sports Strategy.
Information sessions are being held on the following dates:
- September 1, 6pm-7.30pm, Council Chambers (COVID safety standards maintained)
- September 8, 12pm-1.30pm, online session via Zoom
- September 12, 12pm - 1.30pm, online session via Zoom
