Our local tourism and hospitality businesses especially have shown great resilience during this year. We've seen a huge influx of tourists these holidays, particularly across our coastal towns, bringing a much-needed economic boost to the region.
It's great that many businesses have taken that opportunity to bounce back and reap the benefits of the school holidays.
Right now, starting or expanding on a business may seem like the furthest thing from many people's minds. However, providing a unique solution to a gap in the market or fulfilling an unmet need are often the key ingredients to a successful business venture, regardless of the climate.
While COVID-19 has accelerated some trends and forced others in different directions, it's also presented many different opportunities.
And with travel limited to intra-state for the time being, I think we're all looking for unique and fun travel experiences with our loved ones. Even if that means only travelling a couple of hours north or south on the Pacific Highway or exploring our own backyard for the weekend.
In the last couple of months it's been great to see council's planning department approve many unique and creative tourism business solutions across our beautiful Shire.
Among them is an exciting, eco-tourist nature dome accommodation, situated only a few kilometres from Crescent Head. The five domes will be a unique style of accommodation that allows guests to truly unwind in nature.
Other developments in the tourism space include seven new cabins on Entrance Road, South West Rocks and four eco cabins off Point Plomer Road adjacent to Big Hill at Crescent Head.
I know the beauty of the Macleay will keep visitors coming back year after year so having a variety of accommodation types across the shire ensures we can continue to support that growing demand.
Finally, with NSW schools resuming next week, I'd like to wish everyone a happy end to the holidays - enjoy the rest of the break and thank you to all of our visitors, your stay means so much and I hope you've enjoyed all that this wonderful valley has to offer.
