Council is one of the biggest employers in the shire and I'm a huge fan of the staff at council and the work they do.

It especially brings a smile to my face when I meet the young school leavers who have just started with us as apprentices, trainees and cadets. It is never easy to find a good job straight out of school and right now it seems to be harder than ever, so I always encourage the young men and women of the shire to think about council.
We have some employees who have worked in our teams for decades, rising from apprentices and trainees to achieve lifelong careers delivering services to our community.
Council's Organisation Development team have opened applications for a number of positions that would suit a school leaver wanting to commence a career in a trade.
I think the best thing about these roles is that they don't require experience, they provide it.
I'm just glad I don't have any role in hiring these roles as I would love to give everyone a go!
The organisation is advertising for a variety of roles including Apprentice Electrical Fitter, Apprentice Mechanical Fitter, Trainee Water Operations and Environmental Cadet. They are all roles that give young men and women a nationally recognised qualification through a combination of formal training and practical on-the-job experience with ongoing mentoring and support by qualified council staff.
If you're interested or know someone who might be please find out more about the roles at careers.kempsey.nsw.gov.au
Our library is one of our proudest and most valuable services and I'm so glad to see them reopening on Saturdays.
As of this week our Kempsey, South West Rocks and Stuarts Point are returning to normal operating hours. See you there!
Water Week 2020
Finally, I'd just like to say happy Water Week - although after the last few years it feels like every week should be water week! It's been a relatively good winter in terms of rainfall and we're all grateful for that, but this will likely be another long hot summer, so take a moment this week to consider if there is anything else you might be able to do to help us conserve our most precious resource.
