Now known as the Black Summer Bushfires, residents spent months dealing with the constant threat of fires, all under the sickening cloud of ash and smoke.
There were many tragedies, but also many acts of bravery and resilience that saw locals join together like never before.
The Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue proved to be invaluable organisations, tirelessly fighting to save lives and property for weeks at a time with no rest.
Other emergency services, locals and even four men from Sydney stepped up as well, proving that even in dark times there are still good people willing to help their neighbours.
We dug into our archives and compiled 30 images taken by Macleay Argus Journalists, readers, and emergency service personal capturing the moments of the 2019 bushfires across the Macleay.
