The shirts were made possible through the 2020 NAIDOC Local Grants funding round. The shirts provide a unique artistic avenue to display the 'Always Was Always Will Be' message of 2020.
Local Gumbaynggirr Elder, Uncle Martin Ballangarry, conducted the Smoking Ceremony at the Monday morning assembly, followed by Year 10 student, Tiara Flanders, speaking of the meaning of NAIDOC. The school captains then raised the flags.
Students will spend the rest of this week celebrating via a number of activities like 'Creation stories', learning about kinship, totems, Dreaming and local Gumbaynggirr sites.
Year 11 students will attend an 'on country' excursion later in the week.
Aboriginal Education Officer, Diana Flanders is planning to round the week off with some fun games and activities involving staff and students.
