Lower North Coast Superintendent Lachlann Ison said under the current predictions of very high fire danger and above, residents can play an important role in preventing fire from occurring.
"The suspension of permits applies to residents in the Nambucca and Kempsey Shires and will continue until significant rainfall is received," he said.
"Significant rainfall would be a minimum of 25ml but we would be more comfortable if we got up to 50ml."
Temperatures for Kempsey are set to reach 32 degrees on Saturday, while Sunday is predicted to reach a top of 41 degrees, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
"It's going to warm up on Saturday, but Sunday is the concern for us. We will see the winds become more westerly as well.
"The weather will heat up again during next week and we will be holding permits until we get some reprieve."
Fire permits were introduced in September, giving residents three months to burn off before the warmer weather.
"We encourage residents to use this time to prepare their homes and plan their bushfire survival plan," Supt Ison said.
"The RFS appreciate the co-operation of residents on days of heightened fire danger."
Advice
- Residents should continue to prepare their properties for bushfires. Preparations should include the removal of vegetation and other fuels close to the home, clearing of gutters, checking pumps and other equipment and updating or completing family Bush Fire Survival Plans.
- Use caution if driving through smoke.
- The situation with bushfires can rapidly change. Listen to local radio for important fire updates.
