Kempsey Shire Council has moved the VIC to the Slim Dusty Centre (SDC) in South Kempsey which officially re-opened on December 18 under the management of council.
Council's manager Commercial Business, Gayleen Burley, said with the shire managing the SDC for an initial six-month period, it made sense for the VIC to be relocated.
"With the Slim Dusty Centre being such a popular visitor attraction and a short detour from the highway, we saw it as a perfect opportunity to service more visitors and encourage them to explore the Macleay Valley Coast even further," she said.
"We also wanted to improve our visitor experience so we've refreshed the space with new signage, installed beautiful new images of the Macleay in the centre and provided QR codes for ease of access to specific pages on the tourism website.
"We're supporting our local businesses through the creation of a retail space selling local produce and the Dusty's Dinner Camp Café has been retained for visitors and residents to enjoy."
Council will operate the Slim Dusty Centre for six months in partnership with the Slim Dusty Foundation while preparing a detailed business case, including operating model and business plan, with ownership of the centre potentially set to transfer to council.
During the interim operating period, the centre will be open from 10am-4pm Tuesdays to Sundays, with the café open from 10am-2pm. The centre will be closed on public holidays, and from Christmas Day to December 28.
Council's Economic Development and Tourism department also recently unveiled a new tourism website. For more information go to: www.macleayvalleycoast.com.au
