Kempsey Airport AWS recorded 97.4mm of rain from Friday through until Sunday night, according to the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM).

The Kempsey State Emergency Service (SES) were called to three incidents over the weekend and are urging residents to ensure the're prepared for wet weather.

Kempsey SES unit media officer Greg Gill said the calls they received over the weekend were for leaking roofs.

"Our crews were called to three minor incidents of leaky roofs," Greg said.

"The SES encourages locals to prepare their home and to get leaks repaired before we experience more wet weather later in the week.

"We also encourage locals to clean out their gutters to prepare for wet weather."

The wild conditions caused further grief south of the Macleay, with Port Macquarie SES receiving over 44 calls for assistance.

South West Rocks Surf Life Saving president Rod McDonagh said the wet and windy conditions deterred most people from our beaches which resulted in no incidents in the water.

"There weren't many people out and about because of the rain which meant we didn't need to close the beaches," he said.

"The beaches will remain open, but conditions are set to worsen towards the end of the week. There is a big swell predicted and more rain, so we're just reminding people to use their common sense when going to the beach."

Due to the heavy rain, Rod said there will also be debris and murky water entering the ocean.

"We just remind people to be vigilant and we'll continue to monitor the conditions," he said.

A marine wind warning remains in place for much of NSW's north coast, while most of the state is under a hazardous surf warning.

The BOM is predicting more rain for the Macleay until Thursday.

"A lot of the weather is due to that low pressure system just sitting off the coast," BOM meteorologist Alex Majchrowski said.
