The Macleay Land for Wildlife program will be given a boost with a program of community workshops and on-ground activities to support wildlife conservation on private property.

The Land for Wildlife (LFW) program is a voluntary property registration scheme for landowners who wish to manage areas of their property for biodiversity and wildlife habitat.

There are currently 65 properties registered under the scheme in the Macleay Valley.

Under the scheme applicants receive a free property inspection and management advice to register their property. Members are also eligible to receive additional support under the new program.

Macleay Land for Wildlife will be hosting a series of community workshops on topics including plant identification, habitat restoration, wildlife survey and property planning to be delivered in 2021.

The program is also offering support to member properties for on-ground works to restore areas of native vegetation and wildlife habitat, or to survey and manage wildlife populations.

All these initiatives have been made possible with funding provided by the NSW Environmental Trust Restoration and Rehabilitation Grants.

"The growing membership of the Macleay Land for Wildlife program highlights the value of wildlife habitat on private properties," Landcare Officer Andy Vinter said.

"This program of activities will help support landholders to better understand and manage wildlife on their property that ultimately will lead to better outcomes for biodiversity in the region."
