Five teams made up the ladies division this year, the Port Pirates, SCU Marlins, Nelson Bay, the Wanderers and our local team, the Cannonbelles.
It was a bit of a slow start for the Cannonbelles, but coach Misimoa Tavete says the players learnt some great lessons for the upcoming season.
"For a lot of the girls, this was their first time playing together, so we were treating the 7's competition a bit like a diagnostic, dip our toes in a bit, see what works, and what we need to have a look at for the upcoming season," he said.
"We started a bit slow, but gradually built up momentum over the day, there were a few losses, but it all came together in the last match of the tournament with a well-earned win over the SCU Marlins."

Since their inaugural season, the Cannonbelles have been building up their player base, with the current squad a healthy mix of new players, some mainstays and a few who have made the jump from rugby league.
After the the Crescent Head competition, Tavete is now quietly confident that the Cannonbelles will kick off the new season with a very strong team.
"Taking what we learned at the 7's tournament, we will focus on building up over the year and try to get some momentum, and have some fun with it", he said.
"We are coming into 2021 with a strong team; a lot of the players now have a season or two of experience under their belt.
"I'm pretty excited about this season, and I look forward to seeing what the team can do."
Round one of the Upper Mid North Coast rugby union competition will start on April 24, with the Cannonballs hosting the SCU Marlins.
Any players out there who are still interested in joining the Cannonballs or Cannonbelles for the 2021 season can message the club's Facebook page for more information.
