The Sisters Together event was organised by Kempsey Neighbourhood Centre and was a chance for local women to celebrate their strengths and achievements.

"The day included different craft workshops like perfume and lip gloss making, weaving and soap making," Kempsey Neighbourhood Centre manager Shirley Kent said.

"Due to COVID-19 we had to limit the numbers this year, but the plan was for people to come in throughout the day and join in."

The events were run by the Neighbourhood Centre and the Kinchela Boys Home Aboriginal Corporation.

A morning tea was also provided and there was a chance for women to bring up issues that they choose to challenge in the community, tying in with the theme for International Women's Day 2021.

"We had two canvases set up for women to write down what they choose to challenge and what they believe needs more work in the community," Shirley said.

"We have also had a display of lanterns at Kempsey Library this week that groups at the Neighbourhood Centre have made, with the aim to shine a light on issues that women face," Shirley said.

Shirley said events such as this are important for the community.

"It's a way for women to discover they have more in common than they thought and to discuss issues that relate to them," she said.

"It's important for women to not loose sight of their goals and to work together for the future."
