Located at Kempsey Central on Belgrave St, the CUC is free for all university students studying at any higher education institution in Australia, from Diploma to PhD, for students who have part or full-time study loads.
CUC Macleay Valley Chair and Kempsey Shire Mayor, Liz Campbell, said it was exciting to have the new purpose-built facility open and located in the heart of Kempsey.
"The CUC gives our community the space it needs to keep university students living and studying here, whilst providing them with the opportunity to connect with likeminded people and create a learning network," Cr Campbell said.
"The new centre is a fantastic space, it feels special to be in and is conducive for study. The finishing touch will be all the students filling the centre."
The dedicated learning space offers students access to reliable super-fast internet, state-of-the-art technology, multiple work areas for students, smaller study rooms for a quiet study experience, computer and printer facilities and a kitchenette for when a study break is needed. Conference facilities and larger lecture rooms also create opportunities for a more collaborative study experience.
CUC Macleay Valley Centre Manager Kinne Ring said she is excited that the centre is finally open for students in the Macleay Valley community.
"Students in the Macleay Valley will benefit enormously from the centre," Ms Ring said.
"Over the first few days we have over 25 students in for orientation."
One of those students is Annabelle Sneddon who is studying a Master of Communications externally through Charles Sturt University.
"I'm really looking forward to utilising the centre to complete my studies and taking part in the student support workshops to assist me with academic writing," Annabelle said.
"I truly believe the centre Is going to change lives and I cannot wait to hear and see stories of other local students excelling in their chosen field because the centre."
Locally based company Lahey Constructions project managed the fit-out work for the centre in Kempsey Central.
These works included the conversion of a vacant retail premises into a new, vibrant and functional space, suitable for use as the Macleay Valley's CUC.
