* February 2018: Logan City Council chief executive Sharon Kelsey is sacked after seven councillors vote in favour of the dismissal and five against

* April 2019: Then mayor Luke Smith, deputy mayor Cherie Dalley and councillors Jennifer Breene, Russell Lutton, Phillip Pidgeon, Trevina Schwarz, Laurence Smith and Stephen Swenson are each charged with one count of fraud

* May 2019: Logan City Council is dissolved and an administrator appointed

* March 2020: A new council is elected

* November 2020: The eight councillors face a committal hearing in Brisbane Magistrates Court

* April 2021: Fraud charges against the eight councillors are dropped, but Luke Smith is committed to stand trial in the District Court on two charges of misconduct in relation to public office

WHAT WAS SAID OUTSIDE COURT:

* Russell Lutton: "I have done 34 years as a local government representative for Logan. I gave up a lot in that time and to have my reputation tarnished and snapped from beneath me at the whim of the government and others is soul-destroying."

* Trevina Schwarz: "I have stood terrified of the prospect of a lengthy jail sentence for voting according to my conscience and on the legal advice of some of Queensland's leading industrial lawyers to end the probation of (a) CEO."

* Phillip Pidgeon: "This is unfair and unwarranted and I have never seen something like this happen in the history of Australia."

* Local Government Association of Queensland chief executive Greg Hallam: "There must be an independent review to ensure this is not allowed to happen again. The LGAQ has always maintained the CCC overstepped the mark by wading into an industrial relations dispute - an area over which it does not have jurisdiction - and charging each of these councillors with a serious criminal offence."

* A spokesperson for Local Government Minister Steven Miles: "As this matter is still a matter for the Crime and Corruption Commission, it would be inappropriate to comment at this stage."

* CCC chairperson Alan MacSporran: "The CCC investigates allegations of corrupt conduct but does not prosecute. The CCC, as it must, accepts the decision of the independent prosecutor in these matters ... it is difficult to see how it could be reasonably suggested there should be an inquiry into the CCC's conduct. The Queensland community expects a strong, independent agency to investigate allegations of corruption."
