
The Kempsey Golf Club members started the 2021 Club Championships last Saturday with a very good field of 99 players.
The 54 hole event is being co-sponsored by Cetnaj, Elders Sommerville Daley & Cellarbrations this year and the club wish to thank them very much for there sponsorship.
Again a big thank you goes to the volunteers for their help during the week and the green staff for a good job.
The highlight of the first round was the hole in one by Brett Morrison at the 142mt 11th hole.
Brett playing in the last group on the day hit the perfect 9 iron on the green and watched it disappear into the hole to the excitement of his playing partners.
On his return to the clubhouse after his round he said it was his first hole in one and it felt great to have recorded one today.
Congratulations Brett on the top shot.
With the Championships under way the leading players in the 'A' grade are Ian Rudd with a 76 and James Benson on 77.
Both players are former champions with James the defending champion from 2020.
In the 'B' grade Daniel Powick has the early lead after his round of 86 and next best is Ethan Dowling on 87.
Newcomer to the club Will Evill leads the way in 'C' grade with 91 and with a round of 96 Mitchell Clarke is next best.
Round 2 will be held on Saturday with the final round held on Saturday May 15th.
The monthly medals were played for on Saturday and the winner of the top grade was David Griffin with a net 70 with Adam Hudson the runner up on 71.
David Hulme with a net 70 won the 'B' grade from Daniel Powick on 72 net.
Jessica Pritchard was the winner in the 'C' grade on Saturday with a very impressive net score of 4 under par 68.
Will Evill with his net score 70 was the runner up and the medal winner on the day.
In the weekly ball competition the winners were players with a net score of 76 and better and they can be collected from the pro shop at the club along with any unclaimed vouchers from the event.
A reminder to all players that after the 2nd round of the championships the top four players in each grade will be placed into a seeded draw for the final round where you are expected to play.
The draw will see the 'A' grade players hitting off at 12.01pm ,the 'B' grade players at 11.54am and the top four 'C' grade players at 11.47am.
All players can book in now for tomorrow's 18 hole single stroke event now at the club or go online to book in for your round and for more information about the upcoming events please give the club a call ASAP.
Last Sunday saw the Kempsey Div. 2 pennants team took on the strong Coffs Harbour side at home and come away very excited with a victory over the Coffs side 4-1.
The Open Div. team had a bye last Sunday and will play their next game on Sunday week.
