Following the initial consultation at the Community Catch-up in May 2018, further engagement with the South West Rocks community identified projects to complement the valued aspects of the village, bringing exciting plans to the table such as the upgrades to the Back Creek foreshore area.
Buchanan Dr in South West Rocks is the location of the pristine Back Creek foreshore, a haven for residents and holidaymakers who enjoy the clear, calm natural beauty and open green space at the reserve.
Back Creek has long been recognised as a stunning community asset and council has been working hard on improvements to the foreshore area for close to two years, delivering upgrades to enhance the valued community space.
One of the completed upgrades at Back Creek includes constructing a new and improved footbridge, preserving the iconic look, and using durable materials that require less maintenance, while also permitting the community to continue recreational activities in the area.
Additional upgrades see improvements to the public amenities at the reserve, including improving accessibility with the installation of disabled parking spots and ramps, helping all users enjoy the open space.
Council has enhanced the balance between usable green space and parking areas, adding additional picnic tables and seating areas to create a more inviting setting for public use.
The most recent upgrade to the area saw the completion of asphalting works in the car park which took place last week.

This project was made possible after council secured funding through the NSW Government's Stronger Country Communities Fund for the picnic area and amenities, and the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program to upgrade the carpark.
