A MAN will appear in court today charged with murder after a man aged in his 60s was found on a roadside at South West Rocks last night with serious head injuries.
Just before 7pm, emergency services were called to an address at The Rocks, after reports a man had been assaulted.
A 61-year-old was located near the roadway and was treated at the scene by police and NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition, where he later died.
The two men - who are not known to each other - had reportedly been involved in a road rage incident before the altercation.
A crime scene was established, which was examined by specialist forensic police, and officers from Mid North Coast Police District opened their investigation.
A 27-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Kempsey Police Station, where he was charged with murder.
He was refused bail to appear before Port Macquarie Local Court later today.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue.
