That's a remarkably long time to be involved with the service and earlier this year Brian was presented with his National Medal 3rd Clasp.
The Gladstone Brigade started in a shed with one small vehicle. Volunteers ran fundraising activities such as raffles etc to equip a new shed.
With the passage of years, Gladstone now has a much larger shed and two modern vehicles.
The most recent addition was a shed adjoining the original structure - and it is named 'the Brian Beilby Extension', in recognition of the amount of time Brian spent working on it.
During his long and distinguished career as a local volunteer of the RFS, Brian attended an extraordinary number of incidents in the area, as well as participating in numerous out-of-area deployments.
During his 45 years, Brian held every position in Gladstone Brigade, including a 15-year term as Brigade Captain, and up until recently, the positions of Brigade President, Senior Deputy Captain, Secretary, Permit Officer and Training Officer.
After the Section 44 in 2020, a new driveway was poured for Gladstone Fire Station, and Brian hand-planted grass on both sides, and nurtured it for months until it flourished.
Brian's ongoing commitment, positive attitude and friendly manner will be sadly missed by all.
He was mentor to many and one in a million.
Gladstone Brigade wishes Brian all the best on his well earned retirement.
