Booroongen Djugun aged care facility staff take advantage of local vaccination hub

Supported by Healthy North Coast, the hub is one of seven that have been running across the region, with more than 2200 staff booked in to be vaccinated.

The hubs will help protect some of the most vulnerable members of the community from the threat of COVID-19.

Booroongen chief executive officer, Gary Morris OAM, said more than 60 staff had received their first jab. A second hub later this month will ensure all staff are fully vaccinated. The hub is open to all aged care workers in the Kempsey area.

"We are keeping everybody safe," Mr Morris said. "We had many discussions with staff and their families before we set up the hub.

"People were nervous first off and then relieved. They are doing it for themselves, the people they look after, their families and loved ones.

"We're a community and we're all in this pandemic together, so we have got to fight it together."

He encourages anyone who has not yet been vaccinated to get the jab.

"The Delta variant of COVID-19 moves so quickly. People should get vaccinated before it's too late," Mr Morris said.

Booroongen Djugun director of Care, Debra Urquhart, thanks "our dedicated staff and residents for their commitment to ensuring all our mob are vaccinated".

"They understand how important is to ensure the safety of our families and the wider community," Ms Urquhart said.

Healthy North Coast chief executive Julie Sturgess said vaccination remained the best defence against COVID-19.

"We know the supply of the Pfizer vaccine will increase from mid-September and again in October, making access to vaccine much easier for people to get their jab," Ms Sturgess said.

Across the North Coast, more than 60 per cent of eligible residents have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
