It comes on a day when 15 news cases were reported in Kempsey.

Kempsey West Public School and Kempsey Adventist School were also closed this week for deep cleaning after members of the school community tested positive.

All of the cases are linked to a known case or cluster, which includes seven from the same household.

This brings Kempsey's positive COVID numbers total in the last two weeks alone to 33.

Melville High School's principal Andrew Ryder put out the following statement to parents and carers.

"I would like to confirm with you that a member of our school community has tested positive for COVID-19.

"Our school will be non-operational effective immediately for the on-site attendance of students and staff to allow time for contact tracing and cleaning.

"All staff and students are asked to self-isolate until you receive further advice.

"During this time, learning from home resources will be available from the learning from home hub."

NSW Health has requested anyone who has been unwell or if develops any symptoms such as a fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, loss of smell/taste, muscle/joint pains, diarrhoea, nausea/vomiting or extreme tiredness to be tested at one of the COVID-19 testing clinics.

The NSW Department of Education will continue to work closely with NSW Health to ensure the health and safety of all students and staff is maintained.

Mid North Coast Local Health District chief executive Stewart Dowrick thanked the community for coming out for testing in high numbers.

"The Mid North Coast community's response to the recent call for increased COVID-19 testing has been fantastic, with 950 tests conducted across the region yesterday (Wednesday), 652 of which were at Kempsey," Mr Dowrick said.

"I'd like to thank our wonderful staff at our testing clinics for all their tireless efforts and the community for coming forward for testing and helping us to keep each other safe."

The Kempsey region is now 92.8 per cent first dose vaccinated and just under 70 per cent double dose vaccinated while the Port Macquarie-Hastings region is over 95 per cent first dose vaccinated and just under 80 per cent of residents have had their second dose.

The COVID-19 testing clinics in the Kempsey Local Government Area are open.
