It was the battle of club-mates at Jim Stirling Oval on Saturday as Macleay Valley Cricket called play on the first round of their twenty/20 competition.
Rovers 1 captain Jackson Korn won the toss and elected to bat in overcast conditions.
Early wickets came the way of Rovers 2 with a sharp catch from wicket-keeper Steven Morn, off the bowling of Ethan Brown, dismissing Brett Hutley for 4. One shortly became two as Jarrod Prosper was bowled by Kai Dunbar-Rudd with the score 2/13.
The arrival of Mitchell Korn saw the first drop batsman attempt to steer the ship and, to borrow a term from Rovers Matt Brennan, 'steer he did, like John Bertrand, aboard Australia II, in 1983'.
A 45-run partnership with Jack Wakely (20) turned momentum back in their favour.
The arrival of Matt Powick saw captain Scott Witchard bring on Matt's leg-spinning brother Tom.
The younger brother earned bragging rights, dismissing Matt for 4, caught at long-off.
Powick's bowling troubled the Rovers 1 batsmen with Korn called not-out in a close stumping decision.
Korn then went about his business in an assertive manner before teeing off in the final overs with aplomb.
Four overs remaining, he and his brother Jackson (32), took the score from 4/114 to 5/165.
The second last ball saw Korn smash a six toward the clubhouse with his mother ducking for over as the long bomb smashed onto the scorers-table and into the wall.
Another six on the final ball saw the wicket-keeper batsman end the innings 80 not-out off 59 deliveries.
A slow start to the run chase, thanks to the economic bowling of Cooper Petterson (1/15) and Dan Wade (1/6), saw Rovers 2 in trouble early at 1/12.
The wickets fell consistently due to the tight line and lengths from the bowling unit with Ethan Dowling (13) and Lachlan Dowling (17) the only batsmen to reach double figures.
Lachlan Munday (3/5) and Jarrod Prosper (3/17) were the main destroyers as Rovers 2 finished all out for 73.
