Brad Farmer AM is the official 'beach ambassador' for Tourism Australia and is currently on the tail end of a whirlwind whip around the nation to find the country's best 20 coastal spots.
And he says he is a little beguiled by what the Mid North Coast has to offer.
Mr Farmer has spent this week touring the Mid North coastline from Harrington to Wooli and there was one beach that particularly caught his eye.
"With 11,761 beaches to review each year, the mid north coast is always on my radar with its vast pristine stretches of natural coast and charming holiday hamlets like South West Rocks. It ticks all the boxes as one of our nation's very best particularly when our Tourism Australia campaign is encouraging Aussies to #holidayherethisyear," he said.
Australia's top 20 beaches will be announced by the Federal Minister for Tourism Dan Tehan in December.
Mr Farmer says he has visited thousands of beaches and takes a layman's approach when deciding what is sets a location apart from the rest.
"I look at the environmental integrity, the facilities and amenities, the wow factor and the welcing nature of the local community," Mr Farmer said.
In 2020, Cabarita Beach, nestled in the surf town of the same name along the NSW Tweed Coast, earned the top gong.
It was also the first time an inland beach made the cut, with historic Wagga Beach on the Murrumbidgee River recognised amongst the best.
