
Four men will face court today (November 29) charged following an alleged serious assault of a man on the state's mid north coast over the weekend.
About 4am on Sunday, November 28, officers from Coffs/Clarence Police District responded to reports of an assault on Bonville Street, Coffs Harbour.
Upon arrival, officers found a man unconscious with serious injuries. The 46-year-old man was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Coffs Harbour Base Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
A crime scene was established and a short time later, officers arrested one man - aged 22 - at the scene. He was taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station.
Following further inquiries, officers attended a unit on Bonville Street about 2pm the same day and arrested three men - aged 26, 23 and 20 - who were also taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station.
All four men were charged with cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray.
Police will allege in court the man was approached by four men, before being punched repeatedly until he fell to the ground. He was then allegedly stomped on while unconscious.
They were refused bail and are due to appear at Coffs Harbour Local Court.
