Wonga Walk in Dorrigo National Park reopens after $1.1 million upgrade | Photos

Funded through the COVID Relief and Recovery Fund, National Parks and Wildlife Service Area Manager Glenn Storrie hopes the newly finished first stage of the work will make it easier for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the spectacular rainforest walk.

"With more than 150,000 people visiting the national park each year, the Wonga Walk is one of the most popular walks, not only in Dorrigo National Park, but across all of Australia," he said.

"The trail winds through ancient Gondwanan rainforest, past 600-year-old trees and cascading waterfalls.

"We want to provide opportunities for more people in our community to visit and enjoy this wild and pristine World Heritage-listed area."

Stage One of the upgrades included widening and renewing the track from the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre to the Glade picnic area.

The track has been resealed and passing bays, signage and a new rainforest viewing platform have been installed.

The upgrades will also enhance the experience for school and tour groups by providing additional education spaces along the track.

Stage 2 works will continue into 2022 with the refurbishment of the Walk with the Birds boardwalk, due for completion in June.
