BUNBURY cafés have been urged to take their turn in the spotlight by entering the Australian Café of the Year awards, alongside current local entrants Benesse Espresso Bar and the Birdcafe Café. The competition is set to be fierce, with cafes entering from around the country to ultimately decide Australia’s café capital. To enter, cafés simply need to create a dish featuring ingredients from the Heinz and Don ranges. Options include pulled pork, bacon, chipolatas, chorizo, baked beans and the new Heinz condiments range. Businesses must register before Monday, August 18. Café industry guru Sean Edwards will head up the judging panel and will be supported by a number of mystery industry experts who will visit the cafes crowning regional winners before finally unveiling which café has taken out the title of Australia’s best. Public voting will kick off on Monday September 1 and will stay open until Tuesday October 9, giving Bunbury residents a chance to get behind their favourite cafés and boost them into the final round. Twenty-one regional finalists will be selected from the public votes, and voters will go in the draw to win a number of ‘lucky dip’ cash prizes just for participating, including a grand prize of $5,000.
