The carnival attracted prestigious clubs from Sydney as points awarded counted towards NSW State Selection which made for strong competition.
The Kempsey-Crescent Head crews lifted for the occasion as the juniors finished in fourth position while the A-grade crew, which competed in reserve grade at the Coffs Boat Rally, and the Masters 240s, which competed in the Masters 200s, earned third places.
The strong performance from the A-grade crew was made more impressive after a last minute withdrawal of their sweep Mitch Johnson.
“Mitch wasn’t able to compete as he and his girlfriend Amy O’Brien welcomed their new baby into the world,” Kempsey-Crescent Head Surf Boat captain Scott Edwards said.
“Congratulations to them and the future rower.”
Edwards claimed it was a positive weekend of competition, despite the late juggling of crew members.
“It was great conditions, with perfect surf for boating,” Edwards said.
“There was 50 odd crews competing and it was great to see, hopefully it can continue to grow in the coming years and the Coffs Craft can be back on the map.”
The Kempsey-Crescent Head Surf Boat crews will hold a special launch at Crescent Head beach this Sunday, as they launch their new boat which was named after the late Rex Williamson.
Williamson was a member of the Kempsey-Crescent Head Surf Boat crew and swept for many crews in the 60s, 70s and 80s.
The first round of the North Coast Surf Boat Series is set to be held at Woolgoolga on November 9 and 10.
