The Macleay Valley Cricket Association held its annual Bash 4 Cash day on Sunday and a great day of cricket was complimented by mother nature dishing up a ripper.

As usual in seven-a-side cricket, the pace was hectic and general play did not necessarily go according to the text book.
Plenty of runs were scored and ultimately four players; Adam Chalmers, Ethan Dowling, Harry Mainey and Mitchell Clarke weighed in with centuries, with several more missing out by very few runs.
This, of course, relegated the bowlers to the back stalls, and none came even close to picking up four wickets in an innings, something which has featured fairly liberally in the past.
A couple of facets of the carnival is becoming quite cultish. Along with some bizarre team names (one wonders how a salami would babble or how an eet would swa), the attention to team uniforms is becoming particularly detailed, all of which helps give the day a bit of character.
On the cricketing side of things, after each of four pools had seen each team play three matches, the winners of each pool progressed to major semi finals and the runners up to minor semi finals.
Pool winners were: Big Dolphins, eetswa, Nightwatchmen and Mud Crabs while the minor pool semis welcomed: Can’t Bat Can’t Bowl, Nulla Scrooges, Babbling Salamis and Prime Minister’s 8.
The minor end of the prizemoney ($360) was ultimately won by Nulla Scrooges over Prime Minister’s 8 by about a fingernail.
The major end of the competition ($1500) was taken out for the second year in a row by the Nightwatchmen who bowled out Big Dolphins. Their spokesman Bailey Harris (could be their captain—who knows) claimed they would bring up a three-peat next year. That should ruffle the feathers of a few others.
The MVCA would like to thank all those who participated, all the umpires who did their stuff free of charge (as usual), and especially Tania Powick’s band from Kempsey Rotary who,as usual, kept the masses hydrated with water and soft drinks and fed with plenty of wholesome tucker.
