Deputy Premier John Barilaro and Member for Oxley Melinda Pavey announced the project today.
The revitalised centre will partner with local schools and health services to provide a multi-service hub for Macleay Valley residents.
“The old ambulance station is well located in the Kempsey CBD, making this a convenient one-stop shop for young people to drop in to seek advice or support,” Mrs Pavey said.
“We need to do more in this area for the youth of Kempsey, and this is a step in that direction.”
Principal of Macleay Valley Workplace Learning Centre Mark Morrison attended the announcement today and said the centre will provide a safe place for the youth of Kempsey outside of school hours.
“This will provide more opportunities for young people. Having a central hub will make it easier for kids to have a safe and supportive space outside of school hours,” he said.
“Transport to the centre will also be easy, the kids can jump on a bus and be here quickly.”
Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW, John Barilaro MP, said this is an important initiative that offers significant community benefit.
“I’m very focused on ensuring our regional youth have access to information and support, and have every opportunity to succeed.
“Transitioning and re-purposing a surplus Government-owned site to provide targeted community services just makes sense; it’s a win-win.”
The Department of Family and Community Services will work with Kempsey Shire Council in the coming months to determine the final plans for the centre.
