The themed program encourages a love of reading and multi-literacy skills development for pre-schoolers through to high school age children.
The Summer Reading Club was held across the Shire’s library branches at Kempsey, South West Rocks and Stuarts Point between Wednesday, December 12 and finished with a Summer Reading Club Party at Kempsey Library on Thursday, January 24.
Stimulating a love of reading
This year’s theme was ‘Curious Creatures’ and children were able to enter weekly prize draws, as well as a major draw for two Samsung tablets.
Team Leader of Library Services, Angie Meers, said 108 children aged 3-17 participated in the program this year.
“We were thrilled to see so many children and their families get involved in this great program, which helps stimulate a love of reading in young people,” Mrs Meers said.
She thanked all of the children who took part and congratulated the winners of the prizes donated by FOLK (Friends of the Library Kempsey) who purchased the toys using the proceeds from their book sales in Kempsey each month.
