In the five-team competition, the Cannonballs trail the fourth placed Southern Cross University Marlins by nine competition points with four games remaining.
Cannonballs coach Carl Thurgood told the Argus his troops haven't given up hope and while he acknowledges it will be a tough journey, he claims it's still possible.
"There are four games remaining this season and if we are able to win two or three of those then we should be in the finals picture," Thurgood said.
"We still have one more game against the Marlins too, which will be an important one to win."
The Cannonballs came close to leapfrogging into fourth position a fortnight ago, but a last minute penalty goal to the Marlins saw them earn a 34-33 victory.
The heartbreaking defeat is a setback but the Cannonballs can get back on track with a win over the Coffs Harbour Snappers, who they have challenged in their two meetings this season.
Kempsey will also have an added incentive to perform well on Saturday, as they honour the women within their club.
"We have had two close games against the Snappers this year and the result could have gone either way," Thurgood said.
"It's also our Ladies Day this weekend and we will certainly be looking to put together a great performance for them.
"It's a chance for us to show our appreciation for all of the ladies in our club."
The Cannonballs will be without a few key players for their clash with the Snappers but outside back Corey Gale will make his return.
After this Saturday, Thurgood expects to field close to a full strength side for the final three games.
"Heath Lancaster is still out for us this weekend as he's playing representative footy but he will be back for the final three games and the majority of our players should be available too," Thurgood said.
The first grade clash kicks off at 3.15pm at Crescent Head and ladies will be able to receive drinks and food for the day for only a small fee.
