The men in green and white started well with Dylan Whalen pouncing on a loose ball to make it 1-0, 10 minutes in.
Port then equalised around the 25 minute mark and a lapse in concentration from Kempsey late in the half saw Port take full advantage.
"It's been the same story all year pretty much, we scored first then two minutes before half-time we made a few errors and they capitalised to score two goals in two minutes," Kempsey Saints coach Kevin Sinclair told the Argus.
With the score at 3-1, Kempsey bounced back through the ever reliable Nick Wright who added to his 2020 goal-scoring tally in the second half and made it 3-2.
"After Nick's goal it was game on, the boys lifted and chances were created with various shots attempted," Sinclair said.
A strong Port Saints side proved too strong however, holding out the green machine to finish the game at 3-2 and maintain second spot on the ladder.
Shaun Fraser was outstanding in defence for Kempsey, keeping lethal opposition striker Roan 'Biggie' Whiteman to one goal.
Sinclair remarked how proud he's been of the teams effort all season.
"As always the game was played with a great positive effort, that aspect of our performance has been outstanding all year," he said.
In the reserves, Kempsey pulled off a massive effort to defeat the previously first placed Port Saints 3-0 and move themselves up to second, sitting one point behind ladder leaders Port United.
