On Sunday his sporting highs continued as he made his first grade debut for the Macleay Valley Mustangs.

Remarkably, the youngster was coming off a full game for under 18's and a reserve grade appearance.

It's this sort of effort that is making for a special culture around the Mustangs this season and first grade coach Ant Cowan couldn't be prouder.

"I can't speak higher of Bailey," he told the Argus.

"He's a young kid who played a full game of 18's, busted his ass in defence and then backs up in reserve grade and does the same thing.

"Then he backs up in first grade and they're [Breakers] the bench mark and he plays in the middle and just keeps tackling.

"He's got a bright future - I cannot be prouder of Bailey, he's a leader and in the future will be a leader of this club."

Thompson wasn't the only debutant for the Mustangs on Sunday.

Sam Dunn made his maiden first grade appearance and didn't take a backwards step.

The winger scored a debut try and continued to provide solid metres from the back along with Jason Russell and David Davis.
