Local museum practitioner selected for fellowship placement

Mr Brown will undertake a volunteer placement at the Australian Museum in Sydney, where he will learn new skills in the assessment, care, protection and long-term management of historical artifacts.

“It’s an opportunity for the museum to develop new skills, because I’ll be learning them and will be able to apply them to our museum,” Mr Brown said.

“It will build a bigger skill set for us to preserve our items and how we store them.”

The Member for Oxley, Melinda Pavey MP, and the Minister for the Arts, Don Harwin MLC, announced Mr Brown as one of the recipients of this year’s Museums & Galleries NSW Fellowship, Mentorship & Volunteer Placement program.

Minister for the Arts Don Harwin said the funding brings benefits for both the individual and their organisation.

“Being able to offer opportunities for career advancement is a gesture of our appreciation for the hard work from our museum and gallery workers across the State.

“Recipients will learn from some of the leading experts across the State and beyond, and I have no doubt that they will also be able to apply their learnings to their work on their return,” Minister Harwin said.

Mrs Pavey said that it’s great to see a local of Kempsey being rewarded for their work.

“I’m delighted to hear that Kenneth’s dedication is being rewarded and I am excited to see how this opportunity will strengthen the arts and culture space in Kempsey. It is fantastic that our smaller museums and galleries continue to receive this investment each year,” Ms Pavey said.

The Fellowship, Mentorship and Volunteer Placement Program is a Create NSW devolved funding program administered by Museums & Galleries of NSW through annual Small Grants funding of $300,000.

The Fellowship will run for five days at the Australian Museum in Sydney.
