Students came to school in their best Aussie farmer outfits and brought gold coin donations that will be donated to the Macleay Hay Run.

School Administration Manager Renee Marchment said the day was organised to raise awareness about the drought many Australian farmers are facing. 

“It’s all about doing our part to raise funds for the farmers while teaching the students compassion towards others and also raising awareness of the situation out west,” Ms Marchment said.

The school is also collecting non-perishable items to donate to the farmers.

Principal Cameron Upcroft said although the day was organised for the students to have fun, it was still all about the farmers.

“Although we’re having fun, we’re donating so the hay can get to the farmers and feed their cattle,” Mr Upcroft said, addressing the assembly.

Alan and Peter Loveday from the Crescent Head Lions Club presented a cheque for $200 to the school to donate along with their gold coin donations. 

Altogether, the school and Lions Club raised $1260 in donations.

“We’re just a small school, showing our generosity towards our farmers,” Mr Upcroft said.
